Tips for watching whales

Although the beaches of Cabo are beautiful, this season becomes a perfect time to set sail to the seas and enjoy the sea views.
For those who love to explore the ocean, the highlight is that, in winter, the whales migrate the arctic waters until they reach the Mexican coasts, and going out to sea to see them break the surface of the water is one of the most popular things to do in Cabo San Lucas. However, as friendly as they are, we must be careful with this species, since they come here to feed and procreate. That is why we bring you some recommendations to live with this species during your visit to its habitat.

Do not harass the whales
Harassment is never right, especially not a species as rare as blue and humpback whales. Harassing them will cause a possible dispersal of a group of whales, which is completely prohibited, since they can become hostile and may attack you.
It is important to remember that these cetaceans are still wild animals, and that in stressful situations such as strandings and constant harassment, they may try to defend themselves.

Do not litter
Throwing, pouring or leaving any type of organic waste, solid waste, garbage, as well as discharging any type of oil, fuel or waste of any kind that contaminates the water is strictly prohibited, since we damage the natural environment of these species and prevent its proper development, not to mention that we are polluting the environment.

Watch out for boats
Using any type of boat with strong propulsion (whether jet-ski, jet ski) is prohibited, since they disturb the cetaceans in their habitat due to the waves and vibrations that their engines make.
However, not only propelled vehicles are prohibited, kayaks, canoes and paddle boats and submersible vehicles are also prohibited by SEMARNAT, since they are usually associated with hunters. Despite the fact that you have permission or do not have a malicious intent, it is important to know that these vessels are prohibited from using.

Be careful when touching them!
When you are watching them from a boat or underwater living with them, avoid touching them with your bare hand for a long time. This is because these creatures can bring various skin diseases with them. Most of the time the crew captains or instructors will let you touch them for a bit, but then they will have you apply hand sanitizer or wash the hand you touched the cetacean with for the same reason.

Don’t be afraid of them
Whales can appear huge and powerful, however, if you treat them well and don’t disturb them, they are the most harmless creatures you can imagine. They are only here to live and procreate with their own species, in addition to raising their children. Enjoy your stay with them
These are just a few recommendations that our instructors will give you to enjoy a beautiful moment with the whales. If you are interested in learning more about our tours and the proper precautions to take, contact us!
