How to do paragliding and not die trying

When it comes to extreme sports and activities, Cabo is no stranger to them. Thanks to its large open recreational spaces, it is one of the perfect places to practice this type of activity safely, so practicing Paragliding is completely safe.

Paragliding is an extreme recreational sport, it consists of going to the heights in a plane or helicopter and throwing yourself through the air with a parachute, to later activate it and travel freely through the sky. This exhilarating adventure is filled with adrenaline for the entire duration of the flight, and is one of the few opportunities you get to see Cabo San Lucas in all its splendor from the skies.

This sport is not suitable for everyone, since your health is vital for the paraglider to activate properly. This maximum, for these same security reasons, is 90kg per person, in addition to anything such as handheld cameras, telephones or any other pocket item will not be admitted, since it can fall and damage something or someone, or even, get lost in the air However, items such as helmet-mounted cameras (go-pros) or the like that should not be used by hand during the ride are allowed.

Each trip can be individual or as a couple, however, you have two options to travel:

  • The first option is to travel individually with an instructor, who will help you and will be the guide for your experience and will tell you various stories while descending
  • The other is to travel on your own or as a couple, however, to choose this option, you must pass an intensive course, where at the end of it, they will certify you and deliver your equipment for your activity, in this way, you will be able to enjoy it to the fullest your descent.

Beware of situations
It is not always a good time to do Paragliding, if the weather conditions are bad, the captain of the sports post will close this activity, therefore, it will not be possible to operate. Usually the best seasons start from March, since spring begins and later, in summer, where the weather is pleasant and perfect for controlling the paraglider. This good season ends until October, when the wind and cold weather begin, making controlling the paraglider more difficult and dangerous.
Some advice we can give you are:

  • Wear comfortable clothing, if you wear tight clothing it may make it difficult or uncomfortable for you to control the paraglider, causing you to injure yourself or not fully enjoy the experience. Likewise, they may provide you with a uniform if you plan to do this in a sporty manner or don’t wear comfortable clothing.
  • Do not go intoxicated, otherwise, you will be banned from the excursion and you will be cancelled.
  • Do not fly into the clouds, as tempting as it may seem, it is very easy to get disoriented doing this
  • Be careful with other people doing this activity, if they collide they may suffer very serious damage.
